Bambino Mio has received a royal seal of approval from Her Majesty The Queen as one of the UK’s most outstanding businesses.

The reusable nappy specialists have been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, recognising the brands excellence in international trade and ongoing efforts to make reusable nappies and associated products commercially acceptable and available worldwide.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious awards for UK businesses, personally approved by Her Majesty The Queen. Bambino Mio is one of only 220 organisations to be recognised with this prestigious award this year.

This honour is a landmark achievement for Bambino Mio, a family business built from humble beginnings in 1997, growing to become an international success story and crowned with a Queens Award for Enterprise. Bambino Mio will be celebrating the award during a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners this summer.

Guy Schanschieff, Founder & Manging Director of Bambino Mio, commented:

“We’re absolutely delighted by this achievement. It’s brilliant to see that our continued international success has been recognised and our constant global growth shows that there is a clear trend for the reusable nappy product category.”

In recent weeks, Bambino Mio have reported a significant uplift in sales of reusable nappies, reusable baby wipes, natural laundry products and reusable potty training pants. In particular, the brand’s award-winning miosolo all-in-one nappies are in extremely high demand, seeing a fourfold increase in sales.

Continues Schanschieff:

“Around the world, our distribution channels including supermarkets, pharmacies and independents have reported a significant uplift during the current pandemic. Bambino Mio’s website sales have also increased by 400% month on month and we are confident in our ability to meet this demand to support customers during this time.”

“Reusable nappies provide a product solution to the disposable nappy shortages that some consumers are facing. So, more parents are switching to reusable products because they are sustainable and convenient, they can be used, washed and reused in the comfort of their own home.”

In light of the current Government recommendations to not leave the house unless necessary, reusable products are a convenient solution for consumers. Reusable nappies in particular can make parents lives easier – once they are set up with a reusable nappy stash, which can be ordered online, there is no need to visit the shops for more nappy’s week after week.

With more parents ditching disposables and committing to reusable nappies and other eco-friendly product alternatives including Bambino Mio’s reusable wipes, this change in consumer buying behaviour will ultimately affect our environment in a positive way due to the reduction of single-use plastic disposable products being used and ending up in landfill.

Wider use of reusable nappies would help to support the Government’s objective of reducing avoidable waste by 2050 and avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042 due to the damaging environmental impact of disposable nappies.

On average a baby will use 5,000 disposables compared to just 15 reusable nappies which can be used again and again. Every day in the UK, 8 million disposable nappies are thrown into landfill, where each disposable can take up to 500 years to decompose. If parents swap out just one disposable each day for a reusable nappy, they could save 730 nappies from ending up in landfill in the first two and a half years of their child’s life.

Despite the brand’s significant growth, the same family values established in 1997 are still at the heart of the business – to provide parents with product alternatives that are better for baby, better for parents and better for the environment. Bambino Mio’s multi award-winning range includes reusable nappies, baby accessories, swim nappies and potty training essentials.
