Mamas & Papas, the UK’s leading high street nursery brand, is expanding its ‘Loved for Life’ Pre-loved pushchair initiative to seven stores across the country.

With the second-hand market becoming ever more important for both consumers and the planet, Pre-loved offers customers the opportunity to buy refurbished Mamas & Papas pushchairs that don’t cost the earth. Buying second hand helps to reduce emissions, extends the life of products and helps to shift to a more sustainable way of the world.

Following an initial launch at Mamas & Papas’ outlet store in Huddersfield, the service will now be available in the Leeds, Nottingham, Croydon, Gateshead, Birmingham and Cardiff stores on a first-come, first-served basis. All proceeds made on the pre-loved pushchairs in September will be donated to Oxfam to support its Second-Hand September initiative.

Trade-in service

It follows the successful launch of the nursery brand’s Trade-in service where customers who own a Mamas & Papas pushchair can sell it back to the brand at 26 stores across the UK in exchange for Mamas & Papas vouchers worth up to £150. Hundreds of units have already been traded-in since May to be refurbished ready for resale.

Customers can purchase the pre-loved pushchairs with confidence knowing they’ve been professionally restored with a manufacturer 20-point safety check, repaired where necessary and have had a professional deep clean – they all also come with a six-month guarantee.

The Pre-loved and Trade-in services form part of the high street nursery brand’s ‘Loved for Life’ initiative which offers parents a range of sustainable services that ensures essential baby products can be reused, refreshed or recycled, extending the life of items such as pushchairs as well as baby clothes.

‘Valet & Service’

This also includes a ‘Valet & Service’ option which is available in 36 stores across the UK to maximise a pushchair’s life and provide a much-needed deep clean, with any damaged or worn parts replaced in-store.

Several sustainability initiatives have been announced by the high street nursery brand in the past year as part of its ongoing ESG strategy, including a take-back scheme with charity Oxfam which aims to reduce the amount of children’s clothing sent to landfill each year and reduce the emissions from new clothing. More than 13,000 pre-loved items have been donated by customers to date across 50 Mamas & Papas stores nationwide, helping support Oxfam’s vital work around the world. Any customers who donate a bag of clothes will also be provided with £5 discount to spend in store*.

Nathan Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Mamas & Papas, said:

“We are delighted to be rolling out our pre-loved pushchairs to more stores across the country.

“All of our products are designed to last and can be used for multiple generations. However, wear and tear can happen over time but, with a little maintenance, they can keep performing as good as new and be reused for years to come.

“That’s what ‘Loved for Life’ is all about – it delivers upon our continued passion to provide our parents with a market-leading range of  circular services to help maintain, refresh, reuse or even responsibly recycle much-needed items, as well as reducing the number of items which end up in landfill.

“Thanks must go to our customers for enabling us to give their well-loved products a new lease of life and help create a truly sustainability service that not only helps care for our planet but provides for future generations to come.”
