RyRy Compact launches the UK’s first ever toddler compact car seat – the RyRy Scallop. Meeting the EU’s toughest safety standard R129, the RyRy Scallop is designed with safety and portability, style and sustainability in mind.

The brainchild of mum and dad entrepreneurial duo, Leah and James Davis, RyRy Compact is set to transform the lives of stressed-out parents with toddlers in tow this summer. Launched in June, the RyRy Scallop is the first children’s travel product launched by the couple behind RyRy Compact.

The RyRy Scallop epitomises the very best in class when it comes to child car seats, designed for toddlers 76cm to 105cm in height (15 months to approx. 4/5 years) with size, safety, style and sustainability in mind.

Stylish enough for everyday use to take toddlers from the school run to playdates, but compact and portable enough to whisk little ones away on staycations or vacations, the RyRy Scallop measures in at hand-luggage size (52x40x25cm) and weighs just 9kg.

As one of the safest car seats on the market in its size class, the RyRy Scallop meets the toughest safety standards. Not only has the RyRy Scallop been rigorously tested for front and rear impact, but it also features SiP technology, additional side impact protection, to protect little ones on the go and meeting the strictest EU R129 safety standards.

The compact car seat has also been designed with style in mind. Coming in three core colourways, True Charcoal, Grey and Black and White, and now limited-edition Blush, each colourway includes luxe detailing throughout, from leather trims to sporty flashes of neon colouring – there’s a car seat to match every car, parent and toddler.

With sustainability at the core of everything RyRy Compact does, it was vital for mum and dad team Leah and James to build a car seat with the planet in mind. Each RyRy Scallop uses sustainably sourced, anti-bacterial Merino Wool and plant-based polymer foam for its comfortable seats, and the travel bags are made of recycled PET yarn (made from old plastic water bottles). RyRy Compact is also an Official Partner of the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, funding the removal of 5kg of plastic from the world’s oceans for every car seat sold.

Leah Davis, RyRy Compact founder and mum-trepreneur, said: “Most car seat brands overlook size and convenience for parents. At RyRy Compact, we believe that smaller is better. Smaller because no one has enough space anymore, smaller because it’s easier to get around and smaller because we use less of the planet’s resources. Small just fits with our way of life. Safety and sustainability were non-negotiable aspects for us and we feel that we have created a stylish product that we want to use and hopefully others will too!”

About the RyRy Scallop

The RyRy Scallop is a modern-day, stylish child’s car seat, here to make life easier for parents with young children.

  • The RyRy Scallop may be small and compact but that doesn’t mean there is any compromise on safety. Adhering to the latest EU R129 certification, which means not only is the seat tested to the highest standard for front and rear impact but it also gives maximum protection in case of a side impact. It is currently the highest level of safety on the market.
  • The RyRy Scallop car seat’s merino wool covers are not only sustainable, but have a host of other properties that make it ideal for car seats. Acting as a natural thermostat, its wool covers will keep children warm in winter and cool in summer. The naturally occurring wax coating on wool fibre offers anti-bacterial properties, negating bad odours and reducing the number of washes required to keep it clean.
  • The seat foam padding is made from plant-based polymers or to put into English; plain, old, corn-on-the-cob. Not only is the RyRy Scallop foam sustainable but because it is effectively made from natural sugars it is fully biodegradable.
  • The seat comes with a complimentary pilling comb, to help remove build-up of those pesky small balls of wool you get on your woollen goods when rubbed. If required, an infrequent brush will keep up appearances!
  • The tough-as-old-boots travel bag is made from recycled PET (old plastic water bottles in a previous life), with every 1kg of PET yarn saving 60 water bottles from heading to landfill.
  • The RyRy Scallop does have to use some none recycled plastics (recycled plastics are inherently weaker so not ideal for cars seats), which is why RyRy Compact has linked up with Big Blue Ocean Cleanup – an international non-profit foundation cleaning the oceans – which means that for every car seat sold they will fund the removal of 5kg of plastic from the world’s oceans.
  • Fans of keeping things fun, the seat features a playful element to it, with the wash label on its cover asking that you remove child before washing!
