Francesca Willison founded ‘Rowan and Me’, shortly after her first born son, Rowan, was born after finding it difficult to source boys baby clothing that was ‘just a bit different’.

“Using the knowledge and experience gained from my university degree, I made some leggings for Rowan, posted a photo on Instagram and the rest, as they say, is history!”

Francesca explains to Nursery Online how her vision came to fruition, how she manages to combine ethical sustainability whilst ensuring a current and affordable product and what she enjoys most about being in the nursery industry. First, we asked her what sets Rowan and Me apart from its competitors:

“I feel like it’s personal to me – I’m a mum and I want to do the best for my family! There’s a real person behind the brand that absolutely loves and adores everything about this business. I can relate to so many mums and I am grateful for having this opportunity. I’m proud of how far we’ve come and I thank all my wonderful customers and followers.”

How do you manage to combine ethical sustainability, keeping the brand in line with current trends and ensuring an affordable product?

“Currently we’ve merged with a UK manufacturer to outsource some of our products using organic fabrics. We also use recycled packaging and generate very little waste on our fabrics, using as much as we can. My products are also handmade which offers our customers that something on a more personal touch.”

Why should a retailer stock Rowan and Me products – and how do you support retailers wishing to stock your products?

“I’m really passionate about Rowan and me and I hope this shows through our products and our excellent customer service. I will always go the extra mile to make sure my customers are happy. All our designs are created by me or by the other talented designers I work with, which means plenty of variety for retailers to have in store.”

What do you enjoy most about being in the nursery industry?

“I get the opportunity be with my family – after all, I’ve created this brand to spend that quality time with them. I’ve always loved being involved in fashion and I feel very lucky to be able to do something I love – there’s no better feeling. I love to create something unique and seeing that product being worn is fantastic!”

Can you share any specific plans or developments for Rowan and Me for the year ahead?

Now that both my boys are at school, I feel that I’m at a point where I’d like to expand the business at a comfortable growth. I’m working alongside some amazing business people and using their expertise to grow. I’m excited to become more involved with making and producing beautiful products and hopefully this will lead to Rowan and Me being stocked in many more wonderful boutiques. Oh, and expect to see so many lovely new prints coming soon!”
