Launched in March, Prams for Good is a collaborative initiative from industry specialists and the charity Goods for Good, which matches families in need with pre-loved, reconditioned prams and pushchairs, enabling them to get out and about with their babies and children. The campaign, which also prevents pre-loved prams from going to landfill, has gathered pace, with over 80 prams so far distributed to families in the UK.

The past year has not only shone a light on the alarming number of families here in the UK who are desperately in need of basic provisions, but also on the generosity of others who are eager to help. As a result of both the pandemic and the Afghanistan refugee crisis, the Prams for Good campaign has been overwhelmed by the response.

While the initiative is seeing a surge in donations from families who no longer need their prams, it now desperately needs support from independent retailers and brands who can not only donate ex-display pushchairs and prams, but more importantly, act as a donation hub.

The logistics company which is currently in place  to help collect prams from individuals and take them to a central warehouse for redistribution has been overwhelmed with the number of responses, but critically the challenges of a lack of drivers, COVID and now the petrol shortage could mean delays in getting these much-needed prams to families who need them.  The reality is, there are more families than ever needing the prams, more generosity from families in the UK, but a lack of logistics help to fulfil, which is a nationwide problem.

What Prams for Good Needs?

The Prams for Good campaign really needs the industry’s help.  For industry brands, we are asking for any logistics help you may be able to give, no matter how big or small.  For pram brands, donations and logistics help, are always very very welcome.

However, the key to the growth of the campaign is having local retailers on board.  If you can either donate any ex-display stock, or more importantly sign up to become a drop-off hub for donations, this would be invaluable.  It’s a simple process and you won’t need lots of storage space.

About Prams for Good

Prams for Good sources used pushchairs in good condition – donated by pram brands, retailers, families and influencers – and re-distributes them via a network of independent nursery retailers, logistics companies and local charities to families in the UK living in poverty or refugees seeking asylum. The scheme also aims to reduce landfill by recycling unwanted prams.  The hope is to extend this to other family products throughout 2022.

Campaign partners to date include pushchair brand, Didofy and UK registered charity, Goods for Good, which delivers overstocked goods donated by British industry and second-hand, pre-loved goods donated by the local community to vulnerable people and communities around the world.  The Media Snug is one of the co-founders of the campaign, and media partners include Nursery Online, MadeForMums and The Dadsnet are kindly helping spread the word.  Junior Jones recently also signed up and distributed a generous number of prams to the campaign.
