Baby Loves nursery boutique in Wilmslow, Cheshire is owned by nursery retail veteran, Steve Abse. We caught up with him to find out why ‘going the extra mile’ is so important for retailers, when it comes to serving today’s parents – and how he is striving to achieve that:
“It’s been an odd two years but as we come back to some sense of normality, I really believe customers will crave an amazing and different experience from any store they visit. It’s not good enough just to ‘sell them the pushchair’, so at Baby Loves it’s a journey we go through with our customers.
We dont just ‘sell’ products. Offering the right advice, help and support is a given…it’s the extras that make all the difference. Our customers will get a build and steam of their new pushchair together with an invitation to collect with a ‘reveal’ of your pushchair.., it’s an emotional exciting time (far more exciting than buying a car!)
We are more than just a store. We offer complimentary ‘parent to be events’ including a range of talks on helpful topics, such as baby first aid and sleep safety. We also recognise the huge part grandparents play so we’re holding our first ‘grandparents to be event in March. We’ve also had huge interest in baby photography, baby casting and prints as well as the Millie’s Trust first aid courses that we do in store – and we have a qualified maternity nanny offering advice.
We want to be a small part of the amazing exciting journey that os becoming a new parent – and I think that if you manage that, then the bricks and mortar stores will flourish this year.
People are having babies at a similar rate and it’s the most exciting, amazing time for any new parent and grandparent. Yes there’s a cost of living increase but the spend on babies is the last thing that people will reduce. For retailers, it’s all about being the best out there, because the choice about where to buy is enormous.
You’ve just got to be 100% better than the rest!”
