hanging a room from ‘the place where we keep all the junk’ to a baby’s nursery is one of the more pleasurable things about being pregnant. And lots of things can be bought to make it just perfect!

Impending parenthood is a big change and during the months of pregnancy, a lot of emotion can be tied up in getting baby’s room the way it should be. Some parents spend a fortune on murals, cute baby furniture and matching fabrics. Others are more practical looking for furniture that will outlast the toddler years. But one thing is clear – there is a definite trend to buying wardrobes and changers that match.

Colour and styling in nursery furniture follows broad trends. For some time it had to be Antique Pine – a deeper, richer colour than ordinary pine. Then its popularity began to wane with lighter colours gaining ground with beech and a return to white which was the in-colour 15 years ago! A few years ago coloured cots especially pretty pink and blue – gender specific colours to use the correct buzz word – began to make their appearance but somehow failed to stay the course! Now it seems we're back to wood with oak popular in the more expensive ranges.

However, the interior design programs on TV are having an effect and now perhaps one in ten are buying the whole room as a set. With the whole shebang easily costing £1500, this is serious money with profit margins that for once can be decent.

Retailers who give over space to displaying room sets have nothing but positive reactions: customers need to see and feel the furniture before they will commit to spending so much money so it is ideal for bricks and mortar shops. Yes, it may mean that you have a few token pieces on the shop floor with your website offering a wider range. A typical mum will see the furniture in your shop and like it but often she will need to go home and work the tape measure before deciding (so putting detailed dimensions on your website is vital).

Many suppliers will offer display units at greatly reduced prices (some will put a set in for free for a limited time!). Room sets can excite the customer into buying several pieces from a range – and a few décor items as well! Some suppliers such as BabyStyle will deliver direct to your customer as part of the deal.

A good range of furniture can be the way to go for many nursery retailers - all you have to do is persuade the mums to part with their cash…

Sustainable quality from Troll

Troll Nursery takes a lot of pride in producing quality timber nursery furniture. When you see a Troll Nursery product, you will notice that it is strong and sturdy – we don't try to cut costs by using boards and panels that feel too thin or light.

From the time that a log enters our factories in Latvia, until the time that they are boxed and packed for shipping, we ensure that our products meet all of our and our customers’ quality expectations.

You will also notice the beautiful timbers that we use – Nordic Pine and Birch. Both of these timbers are plentiful in Latvia, where over 45% of the country remains covered in forest. These forests are managed with a commitment to the environment and sustainability.

At TrTroll Nursery, we are committed to being environmentally responsible. We use water-based paints whenever we can and we have developed our own recycling systems to make our painting lines even more eco-friendly. We also use our timber waste to efficiently heat our kilns and workshops instead of electricity.

We are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, and we will remain committed to setting the standard for the Nursery Furniture industry in the future.
