Kind + Jugend is on the horizon

Many of us will be heading to Cologne next week and I hope the many emails we have sent out have helped you make your decisions as to what you are going to make time to see.

It's not only buyers that need to look around, everybody needs to at least walk all the aisles. Why? Because we all need to see what's on offer. It may be that everyone has chosen different colours to you. Is that good or bad? On trend or lost in the crowd?

A big international show can also stimulate a lot of ideas. You may not choose to stock Bloggs cots, but look how they are displayed...

A trade show can be a slog. Lots of walking, lots of thinking. But don't forget to smile - even when being pestered by an over eager salesperson.

A trade show can be exciting. New ideas, new products, new people can lead to increased sales and increased profits. Which is what it's all about really.

Not only will we be running our usual Spotlight on the subject, but also, with my Buying4Baby.info hat on, I have written a consumer guide to the subject which we will be giving away free! This is the first in a series of Guides which we feel is badly needed in this industry. So I have two requests. Firstly, that if you have products that falls into this category, you let me know about them! I am keen that the Guide will highlight not only the obvious products like stairgates, but other items which can help keep baby safe!

Dorel Juvenile appoints new General Manager

Dorel Juvenile welcomes a new General Manager, Barbara Echevarria, for their UK and Ireland business, following the retirement Andrew Ratcliffe. Barbara joins the team at their UK Headquarters, based in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

With over 22 years of experience working at a senior level in the parenting sector including significant periods at Mothercare and Disney, Barbara brings with her a wealth of valuable insight. In her new role, Barbara will be responsible for managing the team at Dorel and driving forward their five key brands, Maxi-Cosi, Quinny, Tiny Love, Baby Art and Safety 1st, in the UK and Ireland market.

Bambino Mio launches new & improved, eco-friendly potty training collection

Muslinz launches nappy wrap range

Baby accessories specialist MerryGoRoundUK has launched its own Muslinz nappy wrap range. The new MuslinZ Washable Nappy Wrap has been added to its Cloth Nappies range to be used with its Muslin Squares, Prefolds and Terry Squares.

The wrap, manufactured from USA PUL, also known as a cover or shell, is the waterproof element of the two-part nappy system which is worn over the top. The Muslinz Washable Nappy Wrap is available in two sizes – for newborns up to the age of six /nine months (Size One) and six months up to potty training (Size Two). Both sizes have double gussets which are ideal for Terry Squares and available in pure White and the popular MuslinZ Mint-Grey Stars. Prices start from £7.50.

Baby brands join forces

bébélephant, Little Chick London and BreathableBaby joined forces this week to present a successful product showcase to retailers, bloggers and trade press in London.

Cybex makes a bold statement

Cybex has commissioned graffiti artist, Harriet Wood, to create a striking art piece at one of its independent retailers, Paul Stride, in York. Known for its iconic and fashionable pushchairs and car seats, Cybex is now making another bold statement through art.

Recognised by The Guardian as one of the Top 5 UK Female Graffiti Artists, Harriet Wood made a daring statement reflecting the versatility of the Cybex brand. Her artwork demonstrates the unique patterns that Cybex incorporates into its designs including its Space Rocket collection, in partnership with designer Anna K; its Japanese inspired fashion collection, Koi, and Cherubs, the third collaboration with American designer Jeremy Scott.

Britax Römer reinforces its safety credentials with 'Made in Germany' campaign

This summer, Britax Römer is pleased to launch its ‘Made in Germany’ marketing campaign. At the core of the campaign is a modern, emotive video that not only embodies Britax Römer, but also authentically portrays the innovative, chic and diverse side of Made in Germany.

The video takes the viewer on a journey through the child car seat production process: from design and engineering, to the crash test facility and production. At the heart of the video are the people that are featured, all of which play a central role throughout. This echoes Britax Römer’s strong belief that its employees are an integral part of the company and the driving force behind the brand, from the management team to the production staff, it’s those who dedicate their lives to child safety.

Using the slogan, "Made for our children, made for your children", the video portrays the individual care and attention that goes into the production of each Britax Römer car seat, with 100% of the video featuring real Britax Römer employees for authenticity.

Directed by Milos Savic, who has brought his experience of feature films and music videos, the film was shot at the European site of the company in Leipheim, Bavaria. The 24,000m2 site has approximately 350 employees and houses a state-of-the-art crash test facility, production, logistics and offices under one roof.

The video was filmed with the production company Emenes.

The traditional children's brand Römer was founded in 1871 in Geislingen, Germany. Fast forward nearly 150 years, where together with its British counterpart Britax, it has now become one of the world's leading child car seat and stroller manufacturers. Despite this global success, the company has never lost its local roots and is proud to be one of the few child car seat manufacturers still producing its products in Europe.

Emma’s Diary fined £140,000 for selling personal information for political campaigning

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has fined Lifecycle Marketing (Mother and Baby) Ltd, also known as Emma’s Diary, £140,000 for illegally collecting and selling personal information belonging to more than one million people.

The data broking company, which provides advice on pregnancy and childcare, sold the information to Experian Marketing Services, a branch of the credit reference agency, specifically for use by the Labour Party. Experian then created a database which the party used to profile the new mums in the run up to the 2017 General Election. The Labour Party was then able to send targeted direct mail to mums living in areas with marginal seats about its intention to protect Sure Start Children’s centres.

The ICO investigation found that Emma’s Diary’s privacy policy did not disclose that the personal information given would be used for political marketing or by political parties. This is a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Elizabeth Denham, Information Commissioner said: “The relationship between data brokers, political parties and campaigns is complex. Even though this company was not directly involved in political campaigning, the democratic process must be transparent. All organisations involved in political campaigning must use personal information in ways that are transparent, lawful and understood by the UK public.”
