Summer is ‘a coming’

I can’t believe we’re already half way through July! The kids will be breaking up soon and many will be trying to manage childcare with working. It is difficult, though this doesn’t mean you can just ignore people.

It only takes a couple of seconds to type ‘No thanks’ on an email, hit send and delete the email; but many people can’t even be bothered to do that. So the email sits in the INBOX and clutters things so that important emails get missed. There is a principle of time management that you should only handle a piece of paper once. Either deal with it or bin it. The same can apply to emails. So why don’t we?

I’m probably as big an offender as any. A day away from my desk and the emails have poured in. I do try and scan down the list of senders to see if any are important enough to warrant an immediate reply, though I am often guilty of pushing them to one side because I need to do something before I can reply. If it looks like a press release I can use here, then it quickly gets moved into a subfolder and dealt with on a Wednesday evening!

I try (though often fail) to allocate time to clearing the INBOX. A set time to delete all the rubbish. Answer those that can be answered quickly and highlight those I need to do further work on.
One thing I do know is that if I am on top of my emails with only a few in my INBOX, I am much more productive in other areas of my life.

Here at Nursery Online, we send out marketing emails – do you want to advertise in this Spotlight etc. If you know you definitely don’t want to, why don’t you just type ‘No thanks’ on an email, hit send and delete the email. Then we won’t waste our time and yours with further attempts to contact you.

If you think you might, but are not sure whether you’ve got the budget or the time to create the copy (don’t forget we can help with this if time is an issue), then just say ‘nag me later!!’

It doesn’t help any of us to learn that you meant to join us in a Spotlight but….. We lose out on revenue; you lose out on publicising your brand and products and the retailer loses out by not knowing about your brand and products.

In the fraught time that is summer, shall we try and communicate better?

Alongside the Seattle HQ in the US and offices in Shanghai, China and Tamworth, UK, two new global design studios will enhance and complement the existing structure. One specialising in textile design and fashion sat in the heart of Manchester’s former textile district as well as a global product design studio in the bustling and creatively vibrant East End of London - within striking distance of Shoreditch, the West End and the City.

Green fingers for the Cheeky Rascals Team

The team at Cheeky Rascals were delighted to support their local community this month with a volunteering day at Hampshire based charity, Naomi House & Jacksplace.

In preparation for the charity’s moving ‘remembering weekend,’ the Cheeky Rascals team spent a day volunteering in the gardens of Naomi House. Working tirelessly to clean, trim, prune and organise the space, it was quickly transformed into a sanctuary for local families. The annual ‘remembering weekend’ run by Naomi House, offers an opportunity for bereaved families to meet each other, share experiences and create life-long friendships.

Naomi House & Jacksplace provide expert hospice care to life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and extended families. Delivering vital emotional, spiritual and developmental aspects of care for families across seven counties in Southern England including Hampshire, the inspiring charity cares for more than 440 families each year.

Nursery distributor, Cheeky Rascals has been supporting Naomi House & Jacksplace for two years and this year’s volunteering day marked what is now becoming an annual activity in the Cheeky Rascals diary.

Lisa Congdon, New Business Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace said: “It was great to have the Cheeky Rascals team back again this year to volunteer and help prepare the gardens ahead of our remembering weekend. The team were amazing and did a brilliant job, giving up their time to ensure that families can sit back, share memories and take time to remember in a peaceful, calming space.”

Deadline extended…

Recognising and rewarding talent from across the preschool sector, the PPS Awards are totally free to enter, and include categories across product, retail, marketing, distribution, and outstanding achievement.

Entry for the Product Categories has just been extended until Friday 21 July, and remains totally free of charge to enter. All entries are judged in person by major and independent retail buyers, giving you an exclusive opportunity to showcase your range - and potentially become a finalist or winner at the PPS Awards.

You may submit up to five products per range, but as many ranges as you would like. These entries will be judged in person by a large panel of independent and major retail buyers. Simply send samples with the product entry form - easy!

Product entered must have been either launched between 8th July 2016 and 7th July 2017, or an existing product that has been updated during that time - i.e. new packaging, updated technology or innovation, new colourways.

There’s still chance to be part of something GREAT

The Baby Products Association advises that there are a few last-minute spaces remaining in its UK Pavilion at Kind + Jugend in September.

Adrian Sneyd, UK Pavilion organiser, comments: “This year we have more participants in the UK Pavilion than ever before with over 70 exhibitors.
