Woo-hoo! It’s summer!

The kids are breaking up for their summer holidays. The sun is shining (at least it is here as I write!). Time to relax! Holidays!

Somehow September seems a long way away. Then it will be Autumn; the nights will be drawing in; it will be getting colder! A long time away.

Sorry to disillusion you but there are only eight weeks until Kind + Jugend! OK, if you are simply visiting (you are, aren't you?), it's just flights and hotels (though the best were booked out ages ago).

However, if you are exhibiting (or worse still thinking about it) there really isn't much time. Of course, getting your stand sorted takes priority as graphics need to be designed and printed, electrics sorted and transport booked.

As a result, other things get overlooked. I've seen some exhibitors frantically sorting things out at the last minute, and breathe a sigh of relief that it was 'all done' before the show opened.

Was it 'all done'? Was there not more to be done? The most overlooked essential is pre-show publicity. I know I say this before every show but somehow, many exhibitors still need to be told. You need to tell visitors about yourself and your products before the show. Otherwise how will they know to visit you? You may get the odd buyer who diligently searches out exhibitors, but most buyers will be rushing around trying to see their essential suppliers in their limited time. They will walk past your stand without a second glance.

A little thought (and a few £s) can make a BIG difference.

Clifford Salter 1935 - 2019

It is with sadness that we report that Clifford Salter passed away last week after a short illness. He was 84.

Clifford started his life in the industry working in Salters, his father’s pram shop. In the late 1970’s he and Peter Daniel (of Daniels of Windsor) began to import cots from Italy. This led to the creation of Cosatto which at one point had 60% of the UK cot trade!! Cosatto also had the Swallow and Cumfifolda brands of prams and pushchairs. He was also instrumental in launching Graco to the UK consumer.

Following the tragic death of his son, Mark in 2002, Clifford sold Cosatto and retired a few years later.

Clifford was a stalwart of the nursery trade for more than 50 years and an important member of the BPA. Many of us older ones in the industry will remember Clifford and be grateful for the help and encouragement he gave us.

Tiny Love premieres its first television advert

Tuesday 16th July 2019: A day that will go down in history for developmental toy brand Tiny Love. It saw the launch of its first ever television campaign.

The advert promoting their unique black and white collection – Magical Tales premiered Tuesday on Sky television.

Created in contrasting black and white with flashes of pastel colours, the six-product Magical Tales collection boosts visual stimulation and inspires babies to explore, learn and grow. Bringing the innovative concept to life, viewers are treated to engaging visuals that make the whimsical characters a reality, as they prepare for baby’s arrival. With the tagline ‘designed to develop your baby from day one’, the advert focusses on the range’s hero product – the Black & White Gymini.

Devised to target expectant parents and those with babies aged 0-3 months across the UK, the advert will air on Sky Q and HD boxes across all Sky channels, as well as some on Virgin Media.

The campaign runs for two months, supported by an integrated marketing campaign, including strategic media, digital, print and social media, designed to celebrate the entire Magical Tales collection.

Green Sheep Group appoints former Tesco Group MD to board

Retail heavyweight David Wood is to join Green Sheep Group as Chairman, in a significant move for the organic nursery brand.

The firm, well known for its award-winning brands Snüz and The Little Green Sheep, announced that it has welcomed former Tesco PLC group managing director David Wood as its new Chairman.

With an impressive CV, including two years spent as Group President for Kmart and more recently as CEO of Mothercare, David’s recruitment highlights the success of Green Sheep Group in a competitive retail marketplace.

Roger Allen, CEO of Green Sheep Group, said he was absolutely delighted with the appointment. “It has been a busy time for the business, with such fantastic growth and ongoing development of our branded nursery products, there really is never a quiet moment. Kiddy products auctioned

Yesterday saw an online auction of Wholesale Stock of Kiddy branded car seats, baby carriers, strollers and accessories.

There was an extensive range of both 2018 and 2019 designs including Cruiserfix, Phoenixfit, Guardianfix car seats, Evolution Pro2 infant carrier Urban Star1 stroller, Evoglide strollers and Adventure Pack Baby Carriers, lotted for trade buyers.

Kiddy Children’s Products UK Ltd entered administration earlier this year and the auction is on the instructions of the administrator.

Baby care brand Cheeky Chompers launches crowdfund on Crowdcube

Award-winning baby care brand Cheeky Chompers launched its first crowdfunding campaign this week on equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.

The Edinburgh-headquartered company, who last year won a Queen’s Award for enterprise for in-ternational trade, plans to use the investment to further scale the business through new product de-velopment, direct sales growth and increased brand awareness in key markets.

Founders Julie Wilson and Amy Livingstone met when they were both on maternity leave with their first children. They launched Cheeky Chompers in 2013 with the Neckerchew, the world’s first chewable dribble bib with attached teether and now have nine multi-use baby products alongside a range of products for children and adults with oral sensory issues.

Cheeky Chompers products are now sold by over 1500 retailers in 49 countries, with the US, China and the UK representing the company’s largest markets. The overall global market for baby soothers and teethers forecast to reach nearly $8 billion by 2020. With over 31 distributors globally, exports by Cheeky Chompers account for approximately 65 per cent of total sales.

Founding director Julie Wilson said: “Our vision is to be one of the go-to brands worldwide for baby products and gifts and we’re excited to be sharing our vision and future successes with our loyal customers, supporters and the crowdfunding community. Cheeky Chompers sells in major retailers including John Lewis, JoJo Mama Bebe, Tesco, Boots and Nordstrom. The brand has developed collaborative products with select retailers including Joules and The White Company and has a number of new national retailer wins in the pipeline.
