Childhome joins the Royals' state visit to the Republic of Korea

From 24 till 28 March 2019, King Filip and Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the Republic of Korea. Upon invitation of his Majesty the King Childhome, the Belgian manufacturer of baby products and furniture, joined the trade delegation made up of politicians, businesspeople and academics.

The program included a wide range of visits and activities in Seoul, with the highlight being the signing ceremony on Wednesday, March 27th. During this ceremony Childhome concluded an agreement with their Korean partner to strengthen and develop their relationship.

“We feel deeply honoured to be invited by our King and Queen for this State Visit. This State Visit emphasizes the importance of our business relations with the Republic of Korea and we are proud to be able to contribute to a good cooperation.” so says Xavier Rodrigues, Managing Director at Childhome.

In 2015 Childhome opened their first flagship store in Seoul. With Seoul being one of the most densely populated urban areas and trendy cities in the world, the city was the perfect place to reinforce the brand image of Childhome in the fast growing Asian market. Customers can visit the showroom of the distributor - Childhome Korea - to experience the high quality Belgian designs and innovative products of Childhome.

The fact that the products of Childhome are popular on the Asian market, was confirmed once again in January this year. Childhome won the Best of the Fair Award at the HKTDC Baby Products Fair in Hong Kong (China) with their popular high chair, the Evolu ONE.80°. The experts praised the Evolu ONE.80° high chair for its adjustable height, swivel function and beautiful design.

Childhome, incorporated and ensouled by Stefan & Nathalie Aerts, is a Belgian manufacturer of baby products. Their philosophy is based on improving the lives of young parents. Whilst designing their products in the best interest of a child, they always stay true to their four core values - Innovation, Comfort, Safety and Passion. Currently, Childhome is available in over 50 countries worldwide. But they keep expanding. “Childhome is a company with worldwide ambitions. We have proven this again in February this year by opening our own office and warehouse in the United States.” so says Stefan Aerts, founder of Childhome.

The products will be stocked in outlets of the Hondos Centre who have 65 store and who are recognised as one of the largest and established cosmetic chains and department stores in Europe.

Robbie Mukherjee, International Sales Manager for Baby Kingdom Collection, said partnering with the Hondos Centre was a ‘great fit’ for the company. He said: “Hondos Centre has a very strong reputation with over 50 years in the beauty and fashion retail market. They are trusted and replied upon by their loyal customer base and operate at the more contemporary and prestigious end of the market, making them the perfect stockist for Baby Kingdom Collection.”

Baby Kingdom Collection, which launched last November, has been establishing partnerships across Europe, Asia and Middle East and is also set to launch in Japan and Italy later in the year.

Mukherjee said the response from retailers, distributors and stockists since the brand launched had been fantastic. He said: “We are different from other baby skincare products on the market. The products are painstakingly formulated using a combination of key active ingredients that make them perfect for young, delicate skin. They also have a unique gentle fragrance that ‘lets babies smell like babies’.

“The 97-99 per cent natural range is designed to assist in protecting and improving skin and hair. 2019 will be the year of the fourth Toys Milano edition: the consolidated event awaited by many professionals, whose presence registered record-high growth race with more than 115 companies (toys, early childhood, child care articles, carnival and party) and approximately 1500 buyers, from Italy and abroad.

Toys Milano satisfies every branch represented by Assogiocattoli, since it gives the opportunity for both big and small buyers to meet different companies in the same location at the same time. For his part, buyers have the chance to meet important companies but also smaller ones, with a view of Christmas.

One of the new features of the fourth edition is the Bay-b, an area entirely devoted to childcare, created to enhance the participation of this sector from an exhibiting point of view as well as in terms of communication.

Dorel reduces workforce in France

The Canadian group owning Bébé Confort and Maxi Cosi brands will cut 129 jobs out of 358 on its childcare division in Cholet. The sector suffers from low birth rates and strong competition.

The Canadian group Dorel has decided to close its research and development unit Cholet but also the laboratory and the IT department while cutting into the functions finance, purchasing, logistics, after-sales service and marketing. Commercial and logistical activities for France remain.

A total of 129 positions will disappear from 358 locally at two sites that make up the bulk of the French workforce in the Canadian group.

What are the causes of this withdrawal? Internally, there are talks about the low birth rate in Europe, the offensive of competing brands such as Cybex or Chinese Joie, and the evolution of distribution channels. Not to mention the growing use by young parents of second-hand products. Cholet also bears the brunt of the disappointing results of the parent company, present in multiple segments of consumer goods, electronics, sports and child care. In 2018, the Montreal group posted a net loss of $ 444 million on a turnover of $ 2.6 billion. On 14 March, Martin Schwartz, CEO of the group, announced measures "to create value for shareholders", which will go through "some difficult decisions, but necessary."
