China Kids Expo 2017 - Asia’s leading B2B event for the industry concludes another successful year

China Kids Expo 2017 – the leading trade fair for baby articles and childcare sector in China, joint-organized by China Toy & Juvenile Products Association and Koelnmesse China, wrapped up successfully on 20 October 2017 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre after three activity-packed days.

In conjunction with the China Toy Expo, China Licensing Expo, China Preschool Expo, the entire exhibition space took up a total of 180,000 square meters with a 16% increase of exhibition space compared to last edition.

A total of 2,023 companies representing 30 countries and regions - with a record increase of 19 percent more than the last edition - showcased a wide range of solutions including latest trends and product news by well-known international and local baby brands and Asian-Pacific manufacturers in childcare, toys and kidswear such as Aprica, AVENT, Britax, Cam, Chicco, Combi, Cybex, Decobebe, FisherPrice, Goodbaby, Joie, Mali Home, Maxi-Cosi, NUK, Pigeon, Quinny, Richell and Pouch, etc. from Germany, Italy, Netherland, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, China, Taiwan and other countries and regions.

Initiated in 2013, the Executive Round Table once again proves itself as an efficient platform aiming to help international brands to access the demanding sales channels in China. The Round Table 2017 was attended by the executives of 10 top retailers and distributors in China including Mali Home, Kidsland, LeYou, department stores, baby chain stores, and ecommerce platforms such as JD.com as well as the consultant company GfK.

To provide the extra benefit of much greater targeting, the International Business Matchmaking Program brought together over 100 exhibitors in various industry categories with more than 600 high-quality buying representatives from over 30 countries and regions. Business rounds included car safety seats, strollers, ride-on toys and early childhood education and participants were selectively invited by organizers for active negotiations during the trade fair days.

The debut of the China Kids Technology Zone attracted over 20 companies and start-ups for technological innovation in children's learning. Co-organized by Koelnmesse China and the children's technology innovation service platform Jike BABA, this area was established to share ideas and trends of innovative and technological pre-school education. The China Kids Technology Zone showcased solutions on letting children gain creative awareness and cultivate new ideas as well as how to integrate pre-school education with big data, cloud computing, internet of things, STEM education, coding and robotics.

In addition, the technology media 61Lab has held the Pre-school Education and Technology Innovation Trend Forum. With the showcase revolving around the engaging forum, the event successfully provided education experts with a platform for communication with guest speakers and gathered investors from the government, schools, training institutions, kindergartens as well as equipment manufacturers and service providers, wholesalers and retailers.

Kids Fun Expo returned in 2017 after its successful debut last year to feature China Kids Expo’s strict business focus with two more show days (21-22 October 2017) for the public. Extending the size to 60,000sqm, many exhibitors of China Kids Expo and China Toy Expo opened the doors to young parents, kids, pregnant women and families for product showcases and sales, informative forums and playful activities.

Participating exhibitors transformed their booths from a meeting place for business partners into attractive “brandscapes” for final consumers. More and more exhibitors are pleased to utilize this platform for market research, direct branding and sales.

The next edition of China Kids Expo will take place from 16-18 October 2018, expecting more exhibitors and new complementing activities.

Mippaa Stair Trainer

The Mippaa® Stair Trainer helps children from the age of one to go up and down the stairs. By giving a child their own handrail, they will learn to climb the stairs more safely, stably and independently. This will increase the child’s confidence.

Because of the fact that every year thousands of children between zero and four years old end up in the emergency room due to an accident on the stairs the Dutch industrial designer Patrick Degenkamp (1969), father of two, decided to design a solid and easy to install handrail for toddlers. As the idea was well received Patrick raised the money to patent the product worldwide before founding a company with his sister Micha Degenkamp which resulted in the privately owned company called Mippaa®.

In 2016 the Mipaa® Stair Trainer was launched on the Dutch market by the Benelux distributor Jamak and was awarded in 2017 with the Baby Innovation Award by Baby Stuf. The success of the Mippaa® Stair Trainer didn’t go unnoticed. The Stair Trainer is now proud winner of the Kind + Jugend “World of Kids Safety at Home” Award.

The Mippaa® Stair Trainer consists of a thin handrail and a handrail holder. This fits onto every standard handrail. The installation is quick and easy. The basic Mippaa® Stair Trainer kit is 3.5 metres long and consists of five handrail holders, four handrail sections and two ends. The Basic kit is suitable for a long staircase of up to 3.65m in length. This is easy to shorten.

For shorter sections of staircase there is an Extension kit, which is 1.12 metres long. The Extension kit consists of two handrail holders, a handrail element and two ends. This length is suitable for shorter sections of staircase of up to 1.45 metres in length. Thanks to the modular system, the Mippaa® Stair Trainer fits onto any type of staircase. The tubes are easy to fit to size and are flexible enough to follow the slope of the original handrail.

Mobility for life

Getting around with a stroller – even in winter on snow and ice? The Wheelblades XL make that possible. With their broad contact surface, they optimally distribute weight over the ground beneath, preventing the two front wheels from sinking into the snow.

The width of the Wheelblades XL can be adjusted from 2 to 7 cm, making this practical aid suitable for every stroller.

The broad contact surface of the Wheelblades XL distributes the pressure of the stroller to the ground beneath, thus preventing the small front wheels from sinking into the snow.

The runners move along the ground with very little friction, and even larger irregularities in terrain can be easily navigated. The binding is positioned on the front part of the ski to ensure it always moves in the right direction; whichever way you move the stroller, the skis always go where you want them to. Two glider channels and additional grooves on the underside of the Wheelblades XL ensure stability during the journey, keeping the stroller gliding effortlessly through the snow.

Despite these features, we still recommend locking the front wheels where possible. This is why the skis curve upwards at the rear.

Alongside the light weight and handy size, it is the universally adjustable clamp fastening that make the Wheelblades XL stand out. Simply loosen the two screws on the upper side of the skis and set the binding to the desired size. The binding is suitable for any wheel width between 2 and 7 cm.

To ensure the highest quality, the Wheelblades XL are exclusively developed and produced in Switzerland. Our modern production facilities are located in Maienfeld in the heart of the Swiss Alps, within reach of famous skiing centers like St. Moritz, Davos or Laax.

Alongside the high degree of quality and functionality we put into the Wheelblades XL, we also focus on design. Over recent years we are proud to have won a number of international design awards, including the German Design Award Special 2016, the Red Dot Design Award 2014 and the Good Design Award.

New Aussie product to combat child poisonings

A clever Australian invention is set to revolutionise child safety. Juno ChildSafe – a clever bag that lets adults in but keeps kids out – is the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to medication safety around children, providing a practical solution to childproofing on the go.

Every day in the US, four busloads of kids are taken to the ER after taking medicine. That’s 59,000 a year, according to Safekids Worldwide.

Most of these kids are under the age of 5 years, and get their hands on medication from handbags, diaper bags, off countertops and out of cupboards. These drugs belong mostly to parents and grandparents.

In their latest research, Safekids found that while most parents understood the importance of storing all medicine up and away and out of sight after every use to protect kids from accidental poisoning, the majority of parents didn’t do that.

“Nearly 7 in 10 [parents] report that, in reality, they often store medicine within a child's sight - on a shelf or surface at or above counter height,” says the report.

“Juno ChildSafe provides a practical solution to this problem,” said developer Nadine Meehan.

“These bags allow parents, grandparents and other carers of young children to safely store or carry drugs when they’re on the go, as well as around the house when a high locked cupboard is not available or convenient,” said Ms Meehan. “They have a special patented locking system that young kids can’t open.

She said Juno ChildSafe could be carried in handbags, diaper bags, backpacks and travel bags.

“They are for everything from prescription drugs to common headache tablets, cannabis to throat lozenges, lipstick to tampons – anything you don’t want the kids to touch,” she explained.

Juno ChildSafe co-developer Dr Annette Katelaris, a general practitioner for 20 years, understands the importance of medication safety around children, having witnessed the devastating consequences first hand.

“I will never forget the case of a little girl who was blinded after taking medication she found in her grandmother’s handbag.”
